Dusty's story

More than thirty years in, it's still the happiest place he knows

After more than 30 years underwater and roughly 15,000 dives, diving is still where Dusty is happiest. Much of that time has been spent right here in the Cayman Islands.

DNS Diving grew from a simple idea: that guests should feel that same comfort, excitement and connection to the ocean. He built DNS to pass on something he loves and create the kind of personal diving experience guests want to return to.

That has shaped the business since 2009: owner-operated, personal by design, and built around the people who keep coming back.

Still hands-on

Personally involved in the details

Dusty remains closely involved in the details — from helping guests plan their week to choosing the best operating area for the day and maintaining the service standards DNS is known for.

  • Answering inquiries and helping guests plan their trips
  • Choosing the boats and operating area for the day
  • Selecting dive sites based on conditions and guest experience
  • Guiding dives
  • Maintaining service and safety standards
  • Training and supporting the crew
  • Staying in touch with returning guests

The DNS family

Come as a guest. Leave as part of the DNS family.

DNS is built around relationships, not volume. The goal is not simply to take someone diving once — it is to create the kind of experience that brings people back year after year.

That applies to everyone on the boat: certified divers, families visiting together, returning guests, and people trying it for the very first time. The crew is part of it too — this is a family-owned operation, and it's meant to feel like one.

Returning guests

Three generations, same dive shop

Many DNS guests return year after year, often bringing children and eventually grandchildren with them. Dusty has now certified grandchildren of divers who first became part of the DNS family years earlier.

By our own estimate, around 80% of our guests have dived with us before — a reflection of the relationships that bring people back year after year.

What guests experience

Less rushing. More diving. Real relationships.

  • Small groups, so nobody feels like a seat on a crowded boat
  • Longer dives when your air and the conditions allow
  • Dives that aren't rushed, and schedules that flex
  • Valet-style gear handling — we set up, swap and rinse
  • Sites chosen for the day's conditions and the group's experience
  • Experienced captains, instructors and guides
  • Relationships that last years, not single transactions
  • Guests staying on Grand Cayman — we don't take cruise-ship passengers

Safety & crew

Calm, practical, and built into every trip

Safety at DNS is calm, practical, and built into every trip. The crew is trained, the boats carry the necessary emergency equipment, and decisions are made around conditions and guest comfort — not around forcing a schedule.

  • Conservative decisions based on the day's conditions
  • Proper dive briefings before every dive
  • Emergency oxygen carried on board
  • First-aid and emergency equipment on the boats
  • Experienced captains and crew, trained in emergency response
  • EFR instructors on the team
  • Direct supervision where it's required
  • Time to get comfortable before you enter the water
  • No pressure to rush a dive

Our experienced captains, instructors, and guides share the same approach: professional, patient, and genuinely happy to help.
